Singularity Unveils New Artwork

Derry-based software company Singularity has just unveiled a specially commissioned art work, prepared as part of the Arts & Business Programme, in cooperation with the University of Ulster. The artwork was created by Jenna Roddy, a student on the Masters Degree course at the University Of Ulster Art College. Jenna created an abstract image representing the diversity and geographic spread of Singularity's staff, which has global offices in locations such as New York, Hyderabad and Singapore.  The piece was commissioned by Singularity's Director of Telecommunications, Dr. Robert McGarry, working with Arts & Business Northern Ireland. Arts & Business matched six students from the University with businesses in Northern Ireland during 2007 and 2008; the only instruction being that the student would work cooperatively with their chosen business to create a new piece of art. The objectives were that the students would learn how a business functions while the selected businesses would benefit from working creatively with an artist to express their company values and vision.

"We were really interested in the idea of working with an artist while having only a loose idea of the end result" said Dr. McGarry. "It challenged our structured way of working at Singularity. We're delighted with the work Jenna produced, a really strong image that reflects our unique culture".
