Singularity Hosts World-Wide Staff Conference

Derry, Northern Ireland, 19th June 2008

Derry-based software vendor Singularity hosted a "Worldwide Singularity Day", on Saturday 14th June 2008, with over 100 employees travelling to the city from the company's offices in New York, Singapore, Hyderabad, London, Belfast and Derry.  The event, took place in the White Horse hotel, and was organized to celebrate the continuing success and growth of the company world-wide and to confirm the values and behaviours Singularity staff believe will let them achieve the company's ambitious plans for the future.

The event was inspired by Singularity CEO Padraig Canavan's recent participation in the "Leadership 4 Growth" programme at Stanford University in California.  That programme, sponsored by Enterprise Ireland, introduced a select group of Irish business leaders to some of America's top entrepreneurs and business academics over a 12 month period.  One of the recurring messages during the programme was the importance of building a company-wide agreement on the core values and objectives. 

"At Stanford some of the best companies in the US emphasized this exercise was the essential element in their organisations' success", says Padraig Canavan.  "We're ambitious for the future of Singularity too, and we hope that Saturday's event will act as a spur to even greater achievements".

The first part of Saturday's event consisted of a series of workshops involving all staff in an effort to identify and confirm the kinds of values and activities the company as a whole believe will drive their success.  Top business advisers Frank Berardi and Brian Cole of CLG Consulting flew in from Chicago to host the workshop sessions.  During the second part of the day, the company hosted staff and their families at a lunch and social afternoon.

Singularity has enjoyed rapid growth since being founded in Derry in 1994.  Still owned by the senior management and staff, the company now employs over 220 spread across the globe, with customers such as JPMorgan, BT and Capita.  The company has recently been rated by the two most prestigious international technology research firms, Gartner Inc and Forrester Research, as "visionary" and "strong contender" respectively.
