Singularity wins major WLR3 deal

Business Process Specialists Win Major WLR3 Deal

08 August 2007

One of the UK's largest business telecom providers has selected business process management specialists Singularity to connect them to the OpenReach network using WLR3. Unicom provides business communications services to over 60,000 small businesses across the UK. Singularity's solution will enable Unicom to buy and sell phone line services using the new WLR3 protocol, allowing them to compete on an equal footing with BT and the other major communications services firms across Britain.

In 2005 the UK's communications regulator OFCOM stipulated that BT must open up its wholesale services to independent providers. In response, BT has spun off its wholesale arm into a new company called OpenReach, which will provide a ‘level playing field' to all Telco providers in the UK who want to buy and sell phone services to business and private customers. However, before they can access these new services the independent operators have to be able to link their internal ordering systems to OpenReach using a new standard called Wholesale Line Rental 3 (WLR3).

After a lengthy evaluation process, Unicom chose Singularity to provide the WLR3 connection to OpenReach, based on Singularity's experience in the industry along with their proven track record of delivering major projects to firms such as BT and JPMorgan. “Unicom chose Singularity to develop its WLR3 Solution because of its expertise in this area - Singularity demonstrated they are a clear leader in WLR3 integration with work they have already completed for the UK's largest telecom provider,” said Chris Earle, Operations Director, Unicom. “Unicom will be one of the first communications firms to adopt WLR3. By choosing Singularity's solution we will be able to compete with BT on an equal basis for the first time and offer a superior service and product to our customers. WLR3 is key to Unicom providing a unique customer experience in the fixed line marketplace.”
