Innovative Solution for Brain Injury Clinic

The Greenpark Healthcare Trust, a Singularity customer, has been short-listed for the InspiredIT Awards 2006 in recognition of the innovative new Brain Injury Unit solution delivered by Singularity. The Inspired IT awards were created by iReach, Ireland's leading Market Intelligence company, to acknowledge the role of IT Managers and their Teams for creating business value through the inspired use of IT The announcement that Greenpark has been short-listed reflects the success of the major patient-centric solution the Trust implemented with Singularity.

The Greenpark Healthcare Trust manages the Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit (RABIU), which caters for brain injuries developed through a trauma, fall or other incident. The Regional Acquired Brain Injury Unit is considered to be a European Centre of Excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injuries. Previously services had been delivered from three separate locations but the Trust decided in 2005 to consolidate this delivery at one purpose-built facility in the interest of improved patient and family care. The project was unusual in that the software solution delivered by Singularity and the Greenpark IT Group was on the critical path for the overall capital project – if the system was not completed and working exactly on schedule, then the move to the new facility couldn't take place.

In fact, not only was the project delivered on time, it also supported a variety of innovative solutions for patient care. The new brain injury unit system is patient-centric solution that includes ward and bed management, assessment management, treatment and care scheduling and waiting list management. All stakeholders, including family members, gain overall visibility of how patient diagnosis and treatment is progressing. Uniquely, as well as providing interfaces for professional and caregivers such as consultants, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, patients are also provided with login accounts to the system, underlining the patient-centric nature of the solution.
