Singularity, a vendor of business process management (BPM) software has won a contract with NHS South of Tyne and Wear to reengineer key business processes as part of their programme of operational improvements. NHS South of Tyne and Wear will initially use Singularity's BPM technology to redesign and automate processes used for recruiting new employees, later extending the technology to processes such as the GP Appraisal system. Singularity's Business Process Platform will link together the Trust's existing computer systems and streamline how staff interact with them, significantly reducing the paperwork and manual steps required. In 2005 the UK's communications regulator OFCOM stipulated that BT must open up its wholesale services to independent providers. In response, BT has spun off its wholesale arm into a new company called OpenReach, which will provide a ‘level playing field' to independent Telco Providers in the UK who buy and sell phone services to business and private customers. However, before they can access these new services the independent operators have to be able to link their internal ordering systems to OpenReach using a standard called Wholesale Line Rental 3 (WLR3).

Software vendor Singularity today officially launched the latest release of its SingularityWLR3 solution for UK communications providers. This groundbreaking version of the solution provides support for the full Wholesale Line Rental 3 (WLR3) product set – PSTN, ISDN2 and ISDN30. This means communications providers in the UK can, for the first time, manage all their BT lines through a single application. The ISDN functionality includes full management of DDI number ranges and, for ISDN30, business continuity options. This is of huge interest in the telecommunications sector, as many UK communication providers have delayed migrating to the Openreach Equivalence Management platform (EMP) platform until ISDN2 services have been released.
